Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Our I Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Our IP Communities October is National Indigenous Peoples Month, and this year’s theme is “Weaving Culture, Enriching Future: Empowering IPs as the base of sustainable development.” To me, this just means remembering the families who’ve lived on this land long before us. The ones who know how to take care of it, and who have stories that make us feel connected. I once saw a lola teaching her apo how to weave in the province. She said, “This cloth is our home, our past, our tomorrow.” That’s what “weaving” is about mixing their old ways with our new world. Their farming doesn’t hurt the soil, they never waste water, and they share everything. These are the simple things we need to live in a world that doesn’t run out. The most important thing is empowerment isn’t just giving them things. It’s letting them have a say, and keeping their land safe. When we let IP communities lead the way in taking care of our planet, we’re not just doing good, we’re making life better for all of us. This month is about seeing them not as part of history, but as the ones who’ll help us make a better future.P Communities
